This beautiful period property dates back to the Strode-Barrington family who lived here in the 16th century.  It has been recently renovated to offer modern amenities in comfortable historic surroundings.  The drawing room offers a large socialising space with deep comfortable sofas, a games table, bar and additional seating.  There are a selection of board games, a games console, Netflix and other streaming services alongside the wireless broadband.  The bedrooms offer plenty of accommodation for up to 18 guests (2 additional guests can be accommodated on request) with 7 bedrooms, most boasting ensuite bathrooms.  The bedrooms offer such features as four poster beds, pearl inlay woodwork, intricate carved headboards and a log burner. The dining room offers seating for 14-18 guests around the large dining table with plenty of crockery and glassware for all.  The kitchen has an American style fridge freezer, a separate free standing drinks fridge, a dishwasher and electric cooker all fitted around the worktop manufactured from recycled glass bottles.   The 6 bathrooms have been recently updated with beautiful Calacatta marble and limestone alongside new fittings.  The leisure facilities offer something for everyone.  Whether it be the large premium hot tub with jets, fountains and waterfalls, or the games room with something for all ages.  This property offers the perfect place to celebrate with your friends and family.

Open the main front door into a stunning spacious hallway to access to all of the ground floor rooms. Featuring 7 bedrooms, kitchen with large fridges and dishwasher, dining room with large dining table and drawing room for entertaining, this has everything you would need for your country escape. The drawing room is a generous 32m squared and offers a fireplace and beautiful large windows. The bedrooms feature tall ceilings, original features and beautiful furniture. The dining room has a large farmhouse dining table. The kitchen boasts an American style fridge and freezer, a separate drinks fridge, a dishwasher and electric oven.

The lounge is large and light, features an original fireplace and can be used as one of the bedrooms if required. The games room offers a good selection of games in addition to the games console and board games available in the drawing room. The garden is large and offers space for outdoor games to keep all of the family entertained.

You have your own private entrance which allows 24 hour check-in, we leave the key in a lock box (code supplied via email).

We are available via call/text. We like to give our guests as much privacy as they like, therefore the keys are left in a secure location so you can check-in and check-out whenever you wish.

The Neighbourhood

Downside is located between Wells, the smallest city in England and the charming historic market town of Frome.  There is a huge array of local activities including Wookey Hole, Cheddar Gorge caves, Longleat Safari Park, museums, water based activities and much more. Wells is just over 10 mins away and has a huge amount to offer for any group of friends of family. Bath is around 25 minutes from the property (subject to traffic) and has an array of cultural sights and vibrant nightlife. Frome is 20 minutes away and offers access to a great selection of eateries, markets, parks, walled gardens and old cobbled streets.

To the north and only 10 minutes by car is the Dartmoor National Park with 365 square miles of moor, streams, rivers and forest. High granite tors, prehistoric remains and enchanting hamlets and villages make Dartmoor a very special place.FOR CHILDRENWithin 20 minutes drive are the Woodlands Adventure park, the Pennywell Farm and adventure park, the River Dart adventure park and numerous smaller attractions for sunny and not so sunny days.GARDENSThere are half a dozen National Trust properties and gardens within easy reach of Fletchers and a day trip away are the RHS gardens at Rosemoor, the world famous Eden Project and the Lost gardens of Heligan. During the summer months there are many private gardens open as part of the National Gardens Scheme. There are 6 Golf courses within easy reach with tennis at Totnes and Blackawton, horseriding at Broadhempston and on Dartmoor, rock climbing at Buckfastleigh and on Dartmoor, surfing at Bigbury, horse racing at Newton Abbot and Exeter, football at Exeter, Plymouth and Torquay and Rugby at Exeter. Swimming pools are in Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Torquay. Also swimming in the sea of course! Guests are able to walk through the nearby fields and streams as it’s owned by Fletchers Combe (70 acres). However, please bear in mind that we rear livestock so make sure to close gates behind you and don’t harm the animals!

The accommodation is situated in the picturesque village of Box and is within easy reach of the World Heritage city of Bath (6 miles). The main apartment is positioned on the ground floor of a beautiful, Georgian family residence and sleeps up to 12 guests. Along with two self contained lodges, sleeping up to 4 guests in each.
Upon entering the property you’ll be greeted by our recently refurbished, fully equipped kitchen, complete with marble flooring, a large 5 burner range cooker, dishwasher and washing machine. To the left of the kitchen is a very generous (4x10meters) open-plan lounge and dining room. An impressive, flexible space that boasts plenty of traditional features. You’ll be able to make use of the three comfy sofas (these are also sofa beds), large dining table, flat screen Sony TV, sound system, pool table, blackboard and board games.

A ten minute drive to the village of Luss and 10 minutes to Cameron House for fine dining at Martin Wishart’s newest restaurant.Over the hill are some of the finest golf courses in Scotland- the world-renowned Loch Lomond course and the Carrick.
